As you know, the teacher asked us to come with ideas for the
course so that we can determine the direction it will take. After class ended
some students, myself included, approached Rúben and told him our proposals.
I will not talk about what my classmates proposed as I think
their words would better explain what come to their own mind. But I will share
my proposal: A microteaching in which we have the possibility to deliver an
English class to the rest of the group. This would help us to get a grasp on
what we could do in the classroom and that is something very important when it
comes to our career.
Remember what the professor said in class and what we have
said also in other courses: We are the ones that must find a way to help our
students learn, we should find the tactics to motivate them. I think that
developing strategies for teaching is something hard and there is also the fact
that these strategies are born through experience only.
Asking someone who does not know you to pay attention in your class is
very hard, so I though practicing with our fellow classmates would be a very
nice proposal to start getting on stage, and let us not forget that since the
people we are teaching to are our peers they could deliver very rich feedback
after we finish the practice. Maybe not everyone in the class will be
concentrated, but as we gain experience, the number of people that will pay
attention in our classes may increase. We can also compliment the website with
our experience when the activity is done and we could also say how our teaching
philosophy changed after the experience.
After I said most of that, and my classmates gave some
feedback on the idea, Rúben replied to me with something: How about if, instead
of doing a microteaching with our classmates, we go to one of the courses he is
teaching in and do the practice there. He said the people in these courses are
very active and receptive…
I do not have the right to say ¨Hey you are
right, that is better¨ or ¨Nah, mine is better¨. The final decision should be
taken by the group. I am not saying mine is the ultimate activity to do. This
post includes just two possible resolutions. If you have one idea then you are
welcome to post it in the comment section, the more ideas we have, the easier
it will be to find something productive and interesting. You can also show your
agreement or disagreement with a proposal you read or compliment it to make it
more interesting.
Last but not least and as the title heavily implies: This
not only goes to the observation activity. The podcast is included in this
discussion.
I don’t think it is a practice idea, because, first of all the time would be very short to accomplish with a work fairly worth it, for the student and us. And Second of all, this kind of activity (and probably all of them) has the risk of becoming a trick. What I am trying to say, it is that this kind of job, can become a gullible activity and also, we should consider the ability much of us have for the rhetoric of distraction, it would be such an easy way to convince those unwary students, pretending to be critic, when in reality we don’t believe in our own words.
ResponderEliminarNow, I would suggest to do an interview based on three topics: being a teacher, what is teaching, and most of the topics we have discussed in class. Of course this interview would be made to a teacher or professor. Then we would serve as cicerones to the teacher or professor, so we can get closer to his/her teaching practices and later on we would discuss to the class what we learnt.
I understand you point but you should bear in mind that this class would be of 15 or 20 minutes strictly. Also, what I am reading seems to be a reply to the proposal of going to another course to teach, but what about doing it in our class?
EliminarI agree that a problem is that some people will not take the activity seriously and go there to act like a clown. But I think in this scenario the teacher could ask for a lesson plan before the practice to see who is going to not take it serious. Also, I am not saying we should talk about a topic that is very hard and we have no idea about. I believe the best thing to do is to ask ourselves ¨What do I want to teach when I get to work? ¨ And start practicing it from now. Do note this is based on the supposition that there is some topic related to the career that each of us wants to master and deliver to a classroom… Because if there is not…
Any way I don't feel like doing a microteaching, without being unrespectul, I just think is very lame. That's why I suggested to do a work as cicerones (because somehow the idea of being in a class doesn't bother me at all).
EliminarI agree with you both. However, Cesar's proposal is more ideal for the podcast. Besides, Esteban's one, the microteaching should be more coherent for the teacher's intention although we had do it during the last semesters, hopefully we will do that when we get our degree anyhow.
EliminarBased on a question that the professor asked me some days before, we can choose a approach or method we like the most to prepare a microteaching.
Hello dear partners! First I want you to know that I am agree with César. Now , I suggest to go to a school and be willing to help the English's teacher to manage the class, carry out with the activities and also propose him or her another one related with the topic of concern of the class. Then this teacher should evaluate our perfomance according with a rubric made by professor Ruben.

ResponderEliminarI am agree with Lore, because the idea to do a microteaching (You know that we had the opportunity to did it in the last semesters) is good if we are going to do it in other context different to our class; on the other hand, the structured about class observation (I already did the activity) is similar to Cesar´s proposal because it is an interview literally. So, I think that we can do the interview evidencing the foreign language standards of the MEN and to make a class acording to the grade, the standars and the documents that we work in the class.

ResponderEliminarGood afternoon dear partners,
ResponderEliminarI apprecitte a lot your proposals for the next activities. I am agree with Esteban's proposal: microteaching with one of the courses that Ruben is teaching, according to what was previously mentioned, in the Esteban's comment, the people in these courses are very active and receptive, so it will be a opportunitie to face a real teaching situation.
Hello everyone.
ResponderEliminarI agree with the proposals that exist so far. But, I am still thinking about the activity of observation; I consider it a way of learning in context where we will analyze behavior, methodologies, forms of teaching and group management. However, I agree with the activity of micro-teaching in a group in which the teacher teaches and also the interview. I think any activity is learning as we apply our critical thinking as Language teachers.
Good evening, dear colleagues.
ResponderEliminarI totally agree with Esteban's microteaching proposal (upgraded with professor Rubén's suggestions) for the structured observation assignment, as well as with Cesar's three-topic interview for the Podcast and with Lorena's petition to be assessed in both assignments according to a rubric made by the professor and presented to us in advance.
